GW can't have had its day already

WTF

I've spent so much time on improving my character and now its all going to get thrown away!

I'm sorry but if i can't carry my character across in some form i won't bother getting GW2 and will probably get WoW.

Oh come off it! Stop being so damn negative. I, for one, am thrilled by this information. Don't like how the game's going to be? Don't buy it.

Well, I guess they finally sold out. A shame, really. This was a unique game, for a while. Now it'll just be another bland face in the sea of MMO's...

Congratulations are in order, however. You guys have managed to turn your backs on your (now "old") standards (I wonder how strong they were in the first place, given the circumstances) and loyal veteran customers without the majority of the community even realizing it. Enjoy your riches, as I'm sure there will be so many more customers flowing in now that you are offering an even higher level cap than your prime competitor (but didn't most people come to your game in the first place because they didn't have that grind to deal with here? Yes, yes I believe so). Then there are those features you said were "coming soon", but they never came (and I highly doubt they ever will). Again, this goes unnoticed by so many, because you have fulfilled the wishes of those who desire to make this game into something it shouldn't be. What happened, guys? Couldn't you take the pressure? Did you spend too much time playing competitor's games that making your own became too much of a struggle? Regardless, it doesn't matter. You'll be rich now, and that's all game companies really care about.

So, what's next on the agenda? Subscription fees? Improved PvE AI for a minimal one-time fee? Buying in-game gear for cash? In all seriousness, I'm just dying to know.

Thanks for the good times, ArenaNet. I'm sure going to miss them. Good Luck with World of Guildcraft too, as I'm sure it will be wonderful, for people who are into that kind of "thing".

I guess the investment in Star Wars Galaxies might just be worth it, bugs and all. I hope a lot of these changes aren't set in stone. I'll play just to complete the story, so they'll have my 50 bux, but I feel a bit sick myself.

First of all, everyone who is flaming the level cap needs to calm down.

Many MMORPGs that I have played have a very high level cap, and I have enjoyed them as much as Guild Wars, if not more. In most games there is always a 'standard level', i.e. a level that everyone tries to level to in order to compete with other people. However, there is always levels above that which give you more incentive to play and level your character so you can be better than 'everyone else'. Grinding is as far as I'm considered pretty fun.

To all the people that are saying PvP will be unbalanced are completely mistaken. As Gaile has stated, there will be PvP only characters who like in the original Guild Wars will start at max level.

A bit curious as to why Gaile said information the inquirer gave was misleading and just flat out wrong.

But as far as the Hall of Monuments goes it seems to be some sort of connection between GW:EN and GW2. If what I read is accurate the HoM can be accessed in GW2 and certain awards(titles?) that you achive in GW:EN will be carried over. Whatever it is that can be carried over will more the likely be useful since it would be in Anets best interest to give players more incentive to buy the expansion pack instead of waiting for GW2, especially since they released information on both products in one bold stroke. I would like some more information on this.

So there isn't any date mentioned for GW:EN? Holiday 2007 doesn't really narrow it down much. It could be April 28th as in the anniversery for Guild Wars but I strongly doubt that since it's so close that it would make no sense for PCGamer to give such an ambiguous release date. Seems like we are talking about a december date or at least somewhere in the 4th quarter. Which is dissapointing because i've lost interest already in the series and was hoping for some refreshing content next month.

That's the real issue I see here. I really dislike only 1 expansion before the next full game. Had they made 3 expansions for each chapter 6 months apart and then dropped beta on us i'd be a bit more pleased. Reason being, no matter what the dates are there will be a large gap of new content.

If they released EN in the spring then we'd probably have to wait at least 2nd quarter of '08 to play beta and no matter how good EN is, it won't be tough enough to hold peoples interest that long. IF they release EN in December that's 9 friggen month's down the pipe. So I can't see how with this current formula it isn't going to deter players from leaving the series. I mean it's grown old for me just with this 6 month deal they were doing, I can't imagine waiting even more for something new.

Well, I'm feeling ill now... But I can see your knack of finding treasure(picking locks?) being passed down, or your family "being known" for being Mighty Heroes, etc.

The large scale battles: cool.
Excessive use of custom allies: not so cool... whatever happened to people!
Level cap breach: cool, and not so cool...

I have to admit, I never was a fan of Nightfall's Lightbringer system, and in turn, PvE only skills... They just bug me somehow. Special event cards from ccg tournaments of old come to mind... "Here's your awesomely wicked card, and no, you can never use it in a tournament setting"

I love it already. I'll love it even more if it's never ending levels (kinda like Dragonball)

Bit let down on no transfer but hey, I already know I'll recreate my Ele as faithfully to the original as possible, same name, similar hair, face, body size and maybe even more.

No/slack party limit restrictions? 50 elementalists/similar spamming Searing Flames-like fire magic? sign me up for life.

On GW:EN, the 10 new heroes will come in handy. Now I'll be able to run 4-man SF teams in PvE mwahahaha. And is it really related to that bastardly sneaky child? Probably yes (knowing Anet...)

As it stands now, you can reach level 20 naturally by following the storyline and completing two 15 attribute quests. Additional experience over level 20 does not add more attribute points. Having a limited number of attribute points (200) and limited number of skills (8) at a time is the aspect of GW I really enjoy. Since all players can easily acquire level 20 and all attribute points, the only difference between two players is their skill. However, if you have level 100 player that had a luxury to grind several hours a day with many more attribute points than level 20 player, the player with higher level will be better just because s/he spent more time playing the game. If level will be only an indicator of experience, then I am all for it, but if high level characters will have significantly better abilities compared to low level characters, a player that grinded more will be better than a player with better skill.
The level cap isn't changing in GW1 and we have no idea how leveling will work in GW2 yet.

Stop worrying, I doubt they'll disapoint.
And you are fanboy trusting they won't do this. Guess what, despite the great game of Guild Wars, they don't walk on water.

There is no indication the direction they seem to be indicating won't be what we don't like. Venting our frustration is one way to show some of the players of GW1 aren't happy with the apparent direction they are taking.

Also remember who is the backer behind Anet.... $ony. If you think $ony isn't looking for getting a bigger chunk of WoW you are kidding yourself.

Thanks for the correction. Obviously, I've never played WoW; what I know of that game is based on what other people have told me. I'm sure others gave me correct information about the level cap, but I just remembered incorrectly.

I've edited my post.

I must admit I am curious on the new system. This brings up the question on classes. Will there be the same existing classes in GW2? will you be adding new classes to GW2?

very will said indeed... The advantage to haveing 20 levels is that you could get a set of characters who would better your chances of joining a Elite Mission team. Virtualy forces all players to play something unique or play a Warrior Ele Necromancer or Monk. You can say good by to that it seems...

BUT HEY!.... at least there is still no fee per month.

Eye of the north will add a huge amount of replayability to all three chapters. Especially if the new loot is varied from area to area.

Imagine coming up with solo, two man and what not builds for EVERY explorable in ALL three campaigns. That will take a while.

I'm hoping that these things remain in place:

1) 8 skills (or something close) on a skill bar only
2) Attribute point system (I just hope it's not screwed up by higher level caps)
3) Professions from GW1 remain
4) Some if not all skills from GW1 make it into the game (tweaked to allow for this higher level cap)

I can't say that I'm liking the higher level cap idea either. Hopefully it isnt something ridiculous. I still think that an arbitrary higher number next to your name does not equate content. Oh well. Change is great but sometimes it isnt always necessary.
